The History Of The Druze In America
I concentrated on writing the history of the EI-Bakaurat EdDirziyat because it was through the efforts of those great men who started the EI-Bakaurat Ed-Dirziyat in 1908 in Seattle, Washington, and those men who began the other thirteen branches of the EI-Bakaurat EdDirziyat in the other States that there was an American Druze Society in the year 1946. And, the efforts of the great EI-Bakaurat Ed-Dirziyat members also made possible the AI-Bayan newspaper which kept the members of all the branches in the United States in constant contact with each other.
The "History of the Druze in America" which also tells the story of the AI-Bayan newspaper, appears in the 1996 Year Book on pages 17 through 67 complete with many pictures of past conventions from 1947 to the 1970s when pictures were no longer taken of the Banquet night. In the year, 1996, the necessity of recording the History of the Druze in America" was realized, and it became a reality at the 1996 Annual Convention..
Mrs. Julie Makarem wrote the "History of the Druze in America" from 1908 through 1970, and Mr. Ajaj Andary wrote the “History of the Druze in America" from the years 1970 to 1996.
On the “americandruzeheritage.com” web site, Mrs. Julie Makarem has updated the "History of the Druze in America" to the present year, 2006.
On the Program at the Annual Convention in 1996, Mrs. Julie Makarem presented the history of "EI-Bakaurat EdDirziyat" from its inception in Seattle, Washington in 1908 to the year 1947 when many of the EI-Bakaurat EdDirziyat members started the American Druze Society ; and Mrs. Ramona Alley presented to the Conventioneers her Convention experiences from 1948 to 1970. Mr. Ajaj Andary presented the history of the American Druze Society from the years 1970 to 1996.
It is important to keep this historical documentation of the American Druze Society alive, and so to all you readers, if you have any history items and pictures of either the El- Bakaurat EdDirziyat or the American Druze Society contact us
The History Of The Druze In America for the 50 th anniversary of the American Druze Society.
The History of the Druze in America, which I wrote in 1996, also appears
on the American Druze Society web site, ( www.druze.com), as well as in the 1996 Year Book of The Heritage, the official publication of the American Druze Society. This work was done to honor the 50 th anniversary of the American Druze
Society in July 1996 at the Renaissance Hotel in Detroit, Michigan. The
article “The History of the Druze in America” is also included on this
website (American Druze Heritage.com). I have, however, updated the
Convention history to include through the year 2006 for this web site.
“The History of the Druze in America” can be found on the web site for Raghida Dergham, as well.
